Psychotherapy in London
A reflective, non-judgmental space to understand patterns, repair, and grow.
About Me
I’m Joseph Madden, a psychodynamic and relational psychotherapist. I’m interested in the ways life and relationships can feel alive, meaningful, authentic — and the ways they can become exhausting or disconnected. Having spent over a decade in high-pressure corporate roles, I know what it’s like to achieve, perform, and appear successful while feeling increasingly distant from yourself, your values, and your closest relationships. That experience led me to therapy and to a deeper exploration of how we live, love, and make meaning.
In my work, I accompany adults and couples who are often capable, thoughtful, and yet feel internally stuck, burned out, or emotionally distant. Many are navigating questions of identity, confidence, intimacy, masculinity/femininity, sexuality, or purpose. Using a Jungian and relational lens, we explore patterns, shadows, and unconscious dynamics — including the parts of the self that have been hidden, dismissed, or shaped by early relationships.
I work with high-performing, neurodivergent, and trauma-affected clients, supporting emotional regulation, relational challenges, self-esteem, and deeper self-understanding. In our work many clients experience, clearer emotional regulation, greater confidence in relationships, a stronger sense of identity and purpose and more ease in persuing meaningful goals.
Alongside my clinical training, I bring extensive experience from leadership, coaching, and organisational life, which often helps clients feel met both emotionally and practically.
I also co-founded Men Connect, experiential groups exploring emotional literacy, masculinity, and relational development. This work continues to inform my practice — for both men and women.
I offer both long-term, exploratory therapy and shorter, goal-focused work. Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision, and I offer a free 15–30 minute consultation to see whether working together feels aligned.
I work from consulting rooms in Bloomsbury, Soho, and Shoreditch.

What can I help with
-
Drawing on psychodynamic and Jungian insight, including exploration of dreams and symbolic material, we uncover how past experiences shape current behaviours and relationships. The work supports individuation, helping you integrate different parts of yourself, gain insight, and engage with life in more authentic and meaningful ways.
Who it’s for: Adults seeking personal growth, self-understanding, and a deeper connection to themselves and life.

Who it’s for: Adults exploring ADHD or ASD, including high-functioning or late-diagnosed individuals, who want support navigating work, relationships, and personal identity.

-
Space to explore pressures, stress, and burnout, particularly in high-demand personal or professional contexts. We identify patterns and perceptions which may block you, building new strategies to restore balance, energy, and emotional clarity.

-
A confidential, containing space to explore how difficult, painful, or overwhelming experiences, such as childhood trauma, abuse, neglect, relational conflict, or repeated life stress shape emotional patterns, relationships, and ways of being. We work together to understand these patterns, process intense emotions safely, and develop insight, resilience, and healthier ways of relating to yourself and others.
Who it’s for: Adults affected by trauma, complex or difficult childhood experiences, CPTSD, or recurring relational patterns, who are seeking deep understanding, healing, and transformative growth.
-
The first step is an initial consultation, usually around 15–30 minutes. This is an opportunity to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, ask questions, and get a sense of whether my approach feels like the right fit for you. It’s also a time for us to discuss practical details, including session frequency, format (in-person or online), and any specific goals you may have.
-
Assessment is an important part of the therapeutic process. It allows us to understand your unique experiences, patterns, strengths, and challenges, and ensures therapy is tailored to your needs. Depending on your goals, this may include exploration of emotional patterns, relational dynamics, neurodivergence (ADHD/ASD), trauma history, and areas where change is most desired.
-
Length: Standard sessions are 50 minutes.
Frequency: Sessions are typically weekly, as regular meetings help maintain momentum and support meaningful progress.

Each session provides a contained, supportive environment where we can explore emotional patterns, relational dynamics, and personal challenges
-
Everything discussed in sessions is strictly confidential. I maintain professional and ethical standards in line with BACP guidelines, ensuring your privacy and wellbeing are central to our work together.
-
Clients typically report:
Greater self-awareness and understanding of emotional patterns
Improved coping strategies for stress, anxiety, and life challenges
Enhanced relationship insight and communication skills

Therapy is a process that unfolds uniquely for each person. My role is to provide a reliable, reflective presence, helping you navigate challenges, explore possibilities, and cultivate lasting change.
